North End of 183 South Project Now Open
The northern half of the project is now open to traffic. Between US 290 and Smith Road, drivers have a choice to use the new tolled lanes to bypass the traffic signals at the Loyola Lane and MLK Jr. Boulevard intersections. Drivers who prefer not to pay a toll still have the option to use the improved non-tolled general-purpose lanes. Cross street intersections and pedestrian/bicycle accomodations will open in the coming weeks/months. Drivers should be aware that until the full project is completed, there will continue to be lane closures and travel delays, especially southbound where the new lanes connect with the existing roadway near Smith Road.
Toll Payment Options
The 183 Toll Road utilizes all electronic, or cashless tolling. This means drivers do not have to stop – or even slow down – to pay their tolls.
Electronic Tags
Save Time and Money. Get an Electronic Tag.
Customers with an active electronic tag will receive a 33 percent discount on their toll rates. The Mobility Authority accepts any of the following electronic tags: TxTag, TollTag, EZ Tag, KTAG, Pikepass, or BancPass.

Pay By Mail
If you don’t have a tag just keep moving, and we’ll bill you through the Pay By Mail program. Pay By Mail customers are billed using a picture of their license plate, and are charged a $1.00 statement fee per bill.

Qualified Veterans Drive Free
The Mobility Authority offers free tolls to qualified veterans on select roadways, including 183 Toll.
